- video editing is taking over my life

I started a YouTube channel for fun but now the - video editing is consuming all my free time. For every hour of footage, I spend like four hours cutting and adding basic text. I'm using a free editor and it keeps crashing. I enjoy the creative part but the technical slog is making me want to quit. There has to be a faster way to do this.
That sounds rough but there is a way out. Build a simple repeatable workflow for video editing and stick to it.
Try a lightweight workflow that uses proxies for rough cuts and a single master render once you have the edit roughs. Use templates for titles and lower thirds. If the free editor crashes on heavy effects turn them off until the final pass. This saves time and reduces crashes.
Phase one focus on clean edits with minimal effects using a low res proxy timeline. Phase two bring in color grading and tweaks with a smaller set of layers. Keep autosave on and back up projects regularly. If your system struggles consider a slightly more capable free editor or a paid plan if you can justify it.
Batch your edits into dedicated days and set a timer to avoid burnout. A focused sprint is faster than endless tweaking and helps you ship videos.
I can help you map a short plan to speed up your video editing with a simple template pack and a friendly troubleshooting guide Tell me your current setup and the editor you use and I will sketch a practical plan.
