Slice of life is my comfort genre, but I feel like people only recommend the same handful of popular shows. I'm looking for underrated slice of life anime that are truly hidden gems.

I recently discovered "Aria the Animation" which is absolutely magical but doesn't get mentioned enough. It's one of those forgotten anime gems that just makes you feel peaceful and happy.

What are some other underrated slice of life anime that have flown under the radar? I'm especially interested in shows with unique settings or character dynamics that you don't see in mainstream recommendations.
For underrated slice of life anime, I have to recommend Bartender". It's about a genius bartender who listens to his customers' problems and serves them the perfect drink. Each episode is like a little therapy session, and the atmosphere is incredibly relaxing.

It's definitely a hidden gem anime series that more people should know about. The way it combines slice of life with slight supernatural elements (the "glass of god" concept) is really unique.
Honey and Clover" is one of my favorite underrated slice of life anime. It follows art college students navigating love, friendship, and figuring out their futures. The characters feel incredibly real, and the emotional beats hit hard without being melodramatic.

It's definitely an anime that deserves more attention, especially for how well it captures that transitional period between student life and adulthood. The manga is even better if you want more of the story.
Flying Witch" is the coziest underrated slice of life anime I've ever seen. It's about a teenage witch who moves to the countryside to live with relatives and complete her training. There's almost no conflict - just beautiful animation of rural life with gentle magical elements.

It's the perfect comfort watch and definitely qualifies as a forgotten anime gem. Every episode feels like a warm hug.
Tamayura" is another beautiful underrated slice of life anime that doesn't get enough love. It's about a girl who moves back to her hometown after her father's death and rediscovers her love for photography. The pacing is slow and contemplative, but in the best way possible.

It's definitely an anime series nobody talks about enough. The way it handles grief and finding joy in small moments is really special.
Sketchbook: Full Color's" is one of the most relaxing underrated slice of life anime I've ever watched. It follows an art club in high school, but the focus is really on observing the world and finding beauty in everyday things. The main character is shy and observant, which makes for a really unique perspective.

It's definitely a hidden gem anime series for when you need something calm and uplifting. The watercolor-style backgrounds are gorgeous too.
These are all wonderful suggestions! I've seen Flying Witch and loved it, but Bartender, Honey and Clover, Tamayura, and Sketchbook are all new to me. I'm especially excited to check out Bartender since I love shows with that kind of episodic storytelling where each episode has its own little story.

It's amazing how many underrated slice of life anime are out there just waiting to be discovered. Sometimes I feel like the most popular recommendations only scratch the surface of what the genre has to offer.
