Music production tutorials often teach the 'right' way to do things, but sometimes a happy accident leads to a signature sound. What's one specific 'mistake' you made while mixing or sound design that you ended up keeping and using again?
One accidental move that stuck was routing the drum bus through a warm guitar amp for grit. It added texture and I use that trick on new tracks when things sound dry.
A distorted vocal by mistake became a signature bite. I keep that rough edge as an option when a song needs a punchy hook.
That overcooked kick with a tiny boost in the upper bass became my go to punchy kick trick. I reuse it whenever the tempo wants aggression.
Bouncing a piano through a crude tape effect by accident gave hazy warmth. I kept it as a retro texture in future mixes and I learned it from music production tutorials 2025.
A long reverb tail on a pad accidentally made the space feel real. I now use longer tails on select layers to glue parts together rather than drowning them.
