Starting a tech startup and we're bootstrapping everything. Need cheap web hosting with good uptime that won't let us down when we're trying to get our first customers. Looking at shared hosting vs VPS for small business needs. We expect maybe 500-1000 visitors per month initially. Any recommendations for budget-friendly business hosting that still has decent performance?

For startups, I'd actually recommend against the absolute cheapest options. Look for the best value web hosting instead. Namecheap has surprisingly good business hosting plans that include web hosting with free domain and SSL. Their uptime has been solid for my projects, and the support responds quickly when there are issues.
The shared hosting vs VPS for small business decision depends on your technical skills. If you have someone who can manage a server, VPS gives you more control and better performance for similar money. If not, stick with managed shared hosting. For 500-1000 visitors, shared should be fine if you choose a provider with good infrastructure.
Consider web hosting with website builder if you're not technical. Wix and Squarespace include hosting with their plans, and they're surprisingly capable for simple business sites. The trade-off is less flexibility, but for a startup that just needs to get online quickly, it might be the right choice.
Don't forget about business email hosting services. Many startups use Gmail with their domain, but proper business email looks more professional. Some web hosting packages include decent email, but the storage limits are often too low for business use. Might be worth getting email separately.
