Has anyone tried diagnosing a suspected misfire by recording a clean exhaust note with a phone mic and mapping the harmonics to cylinders, effectively crowdsourcing engine acoustics diagnostics?

That could work.

Could be a fun project, but you’ll run into a ton of noise and variable conditions. Crowdsourced acoustics probably won’t be reliable enough for diagnosing a misfire.
