For free sampler plugins, the TX16Wx is incredibly powerful for being free. It can do time-stretching, slicing, and has a decent built-in editor. For simpler needs, Sitala is perfect. Some free MIDI effect plugins like Arpache work great with samplers for creating patterns. These free sampler plugins are essential for sample-based production.
