I've been writing for several years, and while I've improved through practice, I feel like my writing craft improvement has been somewhat haphazard. I'll work on whatever issue comes up in my current project, but I don't have a systematic approach to developing my skills.

I'm curious how others approach writing craft improvement deliberately. Do you identify specific areas to work on? Do you use particular exercises or study methods? How do you measure progress?

Some areas I know I need to work on include:
- Pacing and tension
- Dialogue that sounds natural
- Showing character through action
- Varying sentence structure
- Creating vivid settings

But just knowing what to improve isn't enough. I need a method for actually improving these skills. What approaches have you found effective for systematic writing craft improvement?

Do you recommend focusing on one skill at a time? Using specific exercises? Analyzing published work? Getting targeted feedback?

I'd love to hear how others approach the ongoing process of writing craft improvement in a structured way.
