I've been thinking a lot about writing routine optimization lately. I have a writing routine, but I'm not sure it's the most effective one. Some days I feel like I'm just going through the motions without actually making progress.

I'm interested in how people approach writing routine optimization - not just having a routine, but constantly tweaking and improving it. What metrics do you use to evaluate your routine's effectiveness? How do you know when something needs to change?

For me, writing routine optimization involves looking at:
- Time of day that works best for my energy levels
- Environment setup (noise, lighting, tools)
- Breaks and how to use them effectively
- Transition rituals to get into writing mode
- Dealing with distractions

But I feel like there's more to it. How do you balance structure with flexibility? What happens when life disrupts your carefully optimized routine?

I'd love to hear how others approach writing routine optimization in a sustainable way.
