I love reading about how different authors approach their work. Some write every day at the same time, others write in intense bursts. Some outline meticulously, others discover the story as they go.

I'm curious what author writing methods you've tried adopting from writers you admire, and whether they worked for you. Sometimes I'll read about a famous author's process and think "that sounds perfect!" only to find it doesn't fit my personality or lifestyle at all.

For example, I tried adopting Stephen King's method of writing every day, but with my irregular schedule it just led to guilt when I missed days. Hemingway's approach of stopping mid-sentence so you know where to start tomorrow worked better for me.

What author writing methods have you experimented with? Which ones stuck, and which ones did you abandon? I'm especially interested in how you've adapted other writers' processes to create your own unique author writing methods that actually work for you.
