I'm trying to do some market trend analysis free for my startup and honestly the paid tools are way out of my budget. I've been using Google Trends which is decent but I feel like I'm missing something. Has anyone found any good free tools for tracking market trends? I'm specifically looking at the tech industry but general tools would be helpful too.
Google Trends is definitely the go-to for free market trend analysis, but you're right that it has limitations. I've found that combining it with other free tools gives much better insights. Have you tried AnswerThePublic? It's great for seeing what questions people are asking about topics in your industry. Also, check out Exploding Topics - they have a free version that shows emerging trends before they hit mainstream.
For more quantitative market trend analysis free options, I've been using Kaggle datasets a lot. People upload all kinds of industry data there, and you can do your own analysis. Also, don't sleep on government data sources - the US Census Bureau, Bureau of Labor Statistics, and other agencies have tons of free data that can give you insights into broader economic and demographic trends affecting your market.
I'll add Social Mention to the list - it's a free social media search and analysis tool that aggregates user-generated content from across the web. It's not as comprehensive as some paid tools, but for getting a sense of sentiment and conversation volume around specific topics, it's pretty decent. Also, check out BuzzSumo's free version - you get limited searches but it can show you what content is performing well in your niche.
One approach I've found really helpful is setting up Google Alerts for key terms in your industry. It's simple but effective - you get daily or weekly emails with news and blog posts about your chosen topics. Combine that with following industry influencers on LinkedIn and Twitter, and you can get a pretty good sense of where things are heading without spending a dime.
