I love the idea of upcycling but sometimes the results look... well, like someone just glued some junk together. I'm looking for DIY upcycling projects budget friendly that actually end up looking like something you'd want in your home, not just a craft project.

I've got access to basic tools and some creativity, but I'm not a professional woodworker or anything. Things like turning old furniture into something new, repurposing containers, or giving new life to thrift store finds.

What are your favorite upcycling projects that turned out surprisingly well? I'm especially interested in projects that don't require specialized skills or expensive materials. Has anyone done DIY upcycling projects budget style that ended up looking like they cost way more than they actually did?
I turned an old wooden crate into a coffee table by just adding some hairpin legs from Amazon. Total cost was about $40 and it looks like something from a fancy furniture store.

Also, those glass jars from pasta sauce or pickles make great storage containers. Just remove the labels and paint the lids. I use them for everything from pantry items to craft supplies.

One of my favorite DIY upcycling projects budget was turning an old ladder into a blanket rack. Just cleaned it up and added some hooks. Looks rustic and cost almost nothing.
I turned an ugly thrift store dresser into a beautiful piece with just some sandpaper and paint. Total cost was $25 for the dresser and $15 for paint. Looks completely custom now.

Also, those tin cans make great planters. Just clean them, punch drainage holes, and spray paint. Group them together for a cute herb garden.

One of my best DIY upcycling projects budget was making a headboard from old doors. Found them at a salvage yard for $10 each, cleaned them up, and attached them to the wall. Looks amazing and people always ask where I bought it.
I made a bookshelf from cinder blocks and wood planks. Sounds industrial but when you stain the wood and arrange it right, it looks really modern. Total cost was about $50 for a large shelf.

Also, those wine bottles with string lights inside make great outdoor lighting. Just clean them, put battery operated lights inside, and hang them. Beautiful ambiance for almost nothing.

One of my favorite DIY upcycling projects budget was turning an old window into a picture frame. Just removed the glass, added chicken wire, and use clips to hold photos. Looks vintage and cost maybe $15 total.
I turned an old suitcase into a pet bed. Just cleaned it out, added some foam and fabric, and my dog loves it. Looks cute and was basically free since the suitcase was headed to the trash.

Also, those pallets make great furniture. I made a outdoor sofa from three pallets, some cushions from a thrift store, and a coat of outdoor paint. Total cost was about $60 and it's held up for two years.

One of my best DIY upcycling projects budget was making a jewelry organizer from an old picture frame and some chicken wire. Just removed the glass, added the wire, and use hooks for necklaces. Looks way better than the plastic organizers I used to have.
