I'm getting tired of just streaming shows every night and looking for some hands on entertainment that doesn't require buying expensive equipment or materials. I'm talking about DIY entertainment projects budget friendly enough that I won't feel guilty if I only use them once.

I've done some basic stuff like making a corn hole set from scrap wood and creating a simple outdoor movie screen with a white sheet. But I'm running out of ideas, especially for indoor activities during bad weather.

What are your favorite DIY entertainment projects that actually get used? I'm interested in things like homemade board games, simple craft activities, or even tech projects that don't require coding skills. Bonus points if they're good for groups or family nights. Looking for truly budget DIY entertainment projects here.
I made a giant Jenga set from 2x4s. Just cut them to size and sanded them smooth. Total cost was about $20 for the wood and it's been a hit at every gathering.

Also, those photo booth props from cardboard and paint sticks. Just cut out mustaches, glasses, etc from cardboard, glue to sticks, and paint. Great for parties and basically free if you have cardboard.

One of my favorite DIY entertainment projects budget ideas was making a board game version of a TV game show. Just used index cards, markers, and some tokens from another game. Took an afternoon to make and we've played it dozens of times.
I made a ring toss game from cardboard and paper towel tubes. Just cut holes in the cardboard and decorate it, then use embroidery hoops or homemade rings from wire.

Also, those escape room style puzzles at home. Just create a series of clues and locks (combination locks are cheap) around a theme. Great for groups and you can reuse the locks for different puzzles.

One of my best DIY entertainment projects budget finds was making a podcast with friends. Just use phone recording apps and free editing software. We have silly conversations and inside jokes that are fun to listen back to.
I made a mini golf course in my backyard using household items. Cups from the kitchen for holes, books for obstacles, wrapping paper tubes for tunnels. Took an afternoon to set up and the kids loved it.

Also, those murder mystery parties where everyone gets a character. Just write simple scripts and clues. You can find free templates online and adapt them.

One of my favorite DIY entertainment projects budget ideas was making a movie with friends using our phones. We wrote a silly script, filmed it over a weekend, then edited it with free software. Way more fun than just watching something.
I built a simple arcade cabinet from an old computer monitor and a Raspberry Pi. Total cost was about $60 for the Pi and buttons, plus some scrap wood. Loaded it with retro games and it's been a huge hit.

Also, those trivia nights at home. Just make up categories and questions about your friends/family. Much more personal than generic trivia.

One of my best DIY entertainment projects budget finds was making a podcast recording booth from a cardboard box and old blankets. Sounds surprisingly professional and cost nothing since I had the materials.
