I work with clients who want to use no-code app templates to get started quickly, but I'm constantly running into limitations. Most templates look great in the demos, but when you try to adapt them to specific business needs, you hit walls.
For example, I recently tried to customize a restaurant app template for a client who wanted:
- Table reservation system
- Online ordering with custom modifiers (like "extra cheese" or "gluten-free bun")
- Loyalty program integration
- Real-time inventory updates
The template had about 70% of what we needed, but the missing 30% required workarounds that ended up being more complicated than building from scratch.
My question is: are no-code app templates actually saving time, or are they just giving you a false sense of progress? I've found that many platforms market their templates as "fully customizable" but then you discover that certain elements are locked or require coding to change.
What's been your experience with templates from platforms like Bubble, Adalo, or Webflow? Do they actually work for real business applications, or are they better suited for simple prototypes?
