I'm thinking about starting a human rights book club in my community, but I'm not sure where to begin. I want it to be accessible to people with different levels of knowledge about human rights issues, and I want the discussions to be meaningful but not overwhelming.

What books would you recommend for a human rights book club? I'm looking for a mix of fiction and nonfiction that covers different issues - maybe something about racial justice, something about refugee experiences, something about disability rights, etc. Books that are engaging and thought provoking but not so academic that they scare people off.

Also, how do you structure the discussions? I've been to book clubs where the conversation stays very surface level, and others where it gets really intense. I want to find a balance. Are there specific discussion questions or formats that work well for human rights topics?

And how do you handle disagreements or different perspectives? Human rights issues can be emotional, and I want to create a space where people can share honestly but respectfully.

If you've been part of a human rights book club or run one yourself, I'd love to hear about your experiences and any lessons you've learned.
