I'm tired of buying so many cleaning products in plastic bottles. Looking to switch to green cleaning routines that are effective and affordable. What reusable products for daily use have you found work best for different cleaning tasks? Bonus points for DIY solutions that reduce waste.
For green cleaning routines, I swear by vinegar, baking soda, and castile soap. These three ingredients handle 90% of my cleaning needs. I keep them in reusable glass spray bottles and jars. The baking soda works great for scrubbing, vinegar disinfects and removes odors, and castile soap handles general cleaning. These reusable products for daily use have eliminated my need for specialized cleaners.
Microfiber cloths have been a game changer for my green cleaning routines. They work better than paper towels for most tasks and can be washed and reused hundreds of times. I have different colors for different areas (blue for bathrooms, green for kitchen, etc.). Combined with simple DIY cleaners, they've completely eliminated my need for disposable cleaning products.
I make my own laundry detergent from soap nuts - they're completely natural, compostable, and work surprisingly well. For dishes, I use a solid dish soap bar that lasts forever. These green cleaning routines have saved me so much money and reduced plastic waste dramatically. The key is finding reusable products for daily use that actually work for your specific cleaning needs.
I started with just switching to concentrated refills for my existing cleaning products. Many brands now offer pouches that use 80% less plastic than new bottles. This was an easy entry into green cleaning routines that didn't require learning new recipes or buying special ingredients. Now I'm gradually replacing with simpler solutions as I use things up.
From an environmental impact reduction perspective, the biggest win with green cleaning routines is reducing chemical runoff and plastic waste. I use a steam cleaner for deep cleaning - just water, no chemicals at all. For daily use, simple solutions like lemon juice for stains and essential oils for scent work well. The key is matching the cleaning method to the task rather than using harsh chemicals for everything.
