The app stores are flooded with so much garbage these days. I'm trying to find quality mobile gaming apps that actually have some thought put into them. You know, games with good design, interesting concepts, and actual polish.

Every time I search, I just find the same match-3 games, idle clickers, and hyper-casual stuff. Where do you all find quality mobile gaming apps that stand out from the crowd? Any developers or publishers that consistently release good stuff?
Finding quality mobile gaming apps is definitely a challenge. I've found a few strategies that work:

1. Follow specific developers rather than searching genres. Developers like Devolver Digital, Annapurna Interactive, and Raw Fury consistently publish quality mobile gaming apps.

2. Look for ports of indie PC games. These are usually complete experiences without mobile game monetization.

3. Check out curated sections like Editor's Choice" or "Indie Showcase" in the app stores. They're not perfect but better than the top charts.

4. Follow mobile gaming journalists on YouTube or blogs. They often highlight quality stuff that gets buried.
The problem with finding quality mobile gaming apps is that the app store algorithms favor engagement and revenue over quality. Games that get people to spend money or watch ads rise to the top, regardless of how good they actually are.

My advice: ignore the top charts completely. They're dominated by hyper-casual games designed for maximum monetization.

Instead, search for specific genres you like and sort by release date" rather than "popularity." Newer games by smaller developers often haven't been buried by the big studios yet.

Also, Steam has a much better discovery system for PC games, and many of those eventually get mobile ports.
As an app analyst, I can confirm the app stores are terrible for discovering quality mobile gaming apps. The entire system is optimized for revenue generation, not quality curation.

Some publishers that consistently release quality stuff:
- Devolver Digital
- Annapurna Interactive
- Playdigious (specializes in ports)
- Noodlecake Studios
- The Quantum Astrophysicists Guild

Also, check out sites like TouchArcade or Pocket Gamer. They have actual human curation and highlight interesting games that would never appear in algorithm-driven recommendations.

Another tip: look for games that win awards at festivals like IGF Mobile or Apple Design Awards. These are usually quality mobile gaming apps with actual innovation.
I look for quality mobile gaming apps by focusing on value per dollar. A $5 game that gives me 50 hours of entertainment is a quality app in my book, while a free game that constantly asks for money is not.

Some underrated quality finds:
- Shattered Pixel Dungeon (free, open source)
- Night of the Full Moon (free with reasonable IAP)
- Dungeon Faster (premium card game)
- Meteorfall: Journeys (premium deckbuilder)

These are all games where the developers clearly cared about creating a good experience rather than maximizing revenue.
For finding quality mobile gaming apps, I actually use Reddit more than the app stores. Subreddits like r/AndroidGaming and r/iosgaming have way better recommendations than any algorithm.

People there actually discuss games they enjoy rather than just what's popular. You'll find threads like What's the best premium game under $5?" or "Hidden gem games that nobody talks about."

Also, following specific developers on Twitter can help. Many indie developers announce their mobile ports there before they get any visibility in the app stores.

And don't forget about game bundles on sites like Humble Bundle. They often include mobile versions of PC games.
