I've been eyeing VR headsets for a while - Quest 3, PSVR2, Valve Index. But I'm wondering if VR headset purchases are actually worth it yet. The tech seems cool, but is there enough content to justify the cost? I don't want to spend $500+ on something I'll use for a month and then forget about. Has anyone found VR to be a worthwhile investment for gaming or other uses?

I've owned multiple VR headsets over the years. VR headset purchases are worth it if: 1) You're really into gaming and want the most immersive experience, 2) You have friends who also have VR for social apps, or 3) You want to use it for fitness (Beat Saber, etc.). The Quest 3 is the best value right now - no PC needed, decent library. But expect to use it in bursts rather than daily.
I bought a Quest 2 a couple years ago and it was fun for about a month. VR headset purchases suffer from the same problem as most gaming peripherals - there's a novelty period, then it collects dust. Unless you're a hardcore sim racer or flight simmer where VR adds real value, I'd say wait for the tech to mature more.
I tried my friend's VR setup and while it was cool, I couldn't see myself using it regularly. VR headset purchases seem like they're getting closer to being worth it, but we're not quite there yet for mainstream adoption. Maybe in another generation or two when the headsets are lighter and there's more compelling content.
Look for used Quest 2 headsets - you can find them for $150-200. At that price, VR headset purchases are easier to justify. Even if you only use it occasionally for Beat Saber or watching 3D movies, it's a fun experience. Just don't expect it to replace traditional gaming.
