Full Version: How much modding creativity is too much?

I've been seeing some mods lately that are so radically different from the base game that I'm starting to wonder if they should just be their own standalone projects. Some of these modding creativity displays are impressive, but they completely change the game's identity.

At what point does a mod stop being a modification and start being a new game built on someone else's engine? I'm all for modding innovations, but some of these feel like they're using the original game as little more than a framework.

Where do you draw the line between creative modding and essentially creating a new game?
