Kitchen DIY makeovers seem intimidating but I'm thinking about starting with cabinet refinishing. Has anyone completed a kitchen transformation on a budget? What were your biggest challenges and successes?
Did a complete kitchen DIY makeover on a tight budget. Painted cabinets white, replaced hardware, installed a subway tile backsplash, added under-cabinet lighting. Total cost was around $800 and it looks like a $10k renovation.
Built a kitchen island from scratch. Bought butcher block countertop, built base cabinets, added storage. It gives us so much more workspace and storage. The kitchen DIY makeover wasn't complete without it.
Installed open shelving where upper cabinets used to be. Made the kitchen feel so much bigger and airier. Display my nice dishes and cookbooks. Such a simple change that completely transformed the space.
Added a pot filler over the stove. Was nervous about plumbing but it was actually straightforward. Now I don't have to carry heavy pots of water across the kitchen. Professional looking upgrade that wasn't too difficult.
Replaced laminate countertops with butcher block. Cut and installed it myself. The warmth of real wood completely changed the kitchen's feel. Much cheaper than stone and I can sand out any stains or scratches.
