I just finished my first major DIY project and I'm curious what other people have found to be the most satisfying home renovations. I redid my bathroom and the feeling of accomplishment was incredible. What projects gave you that amazing sense of achievement when you stepped back and looked at your work?
For me it was definitely refinishing hardwood floors. The before and after was just incredible. Took me a whole weekend but saved thousands compared to hiring someone. The satisfaction of walking on floors I restored myself is hard to beat.
Building a deck was my most satisfying project. Watching it come together piece by piece, then having friends over for the first barbecue on it... that feeling is something else. Took about three weekends but worth every minute.
Kitchen backsplash installation for me. I was terrified of messing up the tile work but it came out perfect. Every time I cook now I look at it and feel proud. Such a small change that made a huge difference.
Converting our attic into a proper office space. The transformation from dusty storage to a functional room was incredible. Built custom shelving, installed proper lighting, added insulation... took months but the result is my favorite room in the house.
Built-in bookshelves in my living room. Always wanted them but couldn't afford custom cabinetry. Watched a bunch of YouTube tutorials, bought some basic tools, and built them myself over two weekends. They're not perfect but they're mine and I love them.
