I've been told I need to work on my active listening for managers skills, but I'm not entirely sure what that means beyond just not interrupting people.

What does effective active listening for managers actually involve? Are there specific active listening for managers techniques that work better in professional settings versus personal conversations?

I find that when I'm in meetings or one on ones, I'm often thinking about what I need to say next or solving the problem being presented, rather than truly listening. How do you stay present and practice genuine active listening for managers?

Also, how do you demonstrate that you're actively listening without it seeming performative? I want my team to feel heard, but I also need to move conversations forward productively.
