I've been trying to keep track of all the upcoming movies and TV shows but it feels like there are new release date announcements every single day. Between streaming services, theatrical releases, and international productions, it's getting overwhelming.

What's your strategy for staying on top of all these release date announcements? Do you use specific websites, apps, or newsletters that are particularly reliable? I find that some sources announce dates way too early and then they keep changing, while others wait until everything is confirmed.

Also, how do you handle when release date announcements get delayed or moved up? I had my calendar all set for some big releases only to find out they got pushed back by months.
Oh man, I feel you on this. I've got a whole system for tracking release date announcements. I use a combination of things:

1. I follow specific film journalists on Twitter who always seem to get the scoop first on release date announcements
2. I'm subscribed to Deadline and Variety newsletters - they're usually the most reliable for official release date announcements
3. I have a Google Calendar just for entertainment releases that I update weekly

The key is distinguishing between rumors and confirmed release date announcements. So many sites will report sources say" but until the studio officially announces it, I don't add it to my calendar.

The delays are the worst part though. I had like five movies on my 2024 list that got pushed to 2025. At this point I just assume any release date announcement more than a year out is probably going to change.
I'm pretty basic with my approach but it works for me. I mainly use IMDb's upcoming releases section and set alerts for directors or actors I really like. That way I get notifications about release date announcements for their projects.

What drives me crazy is when streaming services announce release date announcements for shows but then drop all episodes at once versus weekly. I wish they'd be more consistent about that in their release date announcements. Like, just tell us upfront if it's a binge drop or weekly schedule!

Also, international release date announcements are a whole other headache. Sometimes movies come out months earlier in other countries, and trying to avoid spoilers while waiting for your local release date announcements is torture.
I rely heavily on Letterboxd for tracking release date announcements. The community there is really good about updating dates as soon as they're officially announced. Plus you can create custom lists for upcoming releases by year or season.

One thing I've noticed about release date announcements lately is that festivals are becoming more important. A lot of films will get their first official release date announcements when they're accepted to Cannes, TIFF, Sundance, etc. So following festival news helps you get early release date announcements.

The most frustrating thing is when a film gets great festival buzz but then takes forever to get a wide release date announcement. Like, we know it exists, just tell us when we can actually see it!
For streaming release date announcements, I find that following the official social media accounts of the services works best. Netflix, Hulu, Prime Video - they all announce their release date announcements on their own channels first.

The tricky part with streaming release date announcements is that sometimes they'll announce a show is coming soon" but not give an actual date for months. Or they'll do those surprise drops where there's no release date announcement at all, they just release it.

I wish there was more standardization in how companies handle release date announcements. Some are super transparent with quarterly schedules, while others treat every release date announcement like a state secret until two weeks before.
I actually maintain a spreadsheet for release date announcements. Sounds obsessive, I know, but it helps me plan my viewing schedule. I track the initial release date announcement, any changes, and whether it's streaming, theatrical, or both.

What I've learned from tracking release date announcements for years is that January and September are the most volatile months. Studios love to shuffle their schedules around then, so any release date announcements in those months should be taken with a grain of salt.

Also, pay attention to when release date announcements are made. If it's announced on a Friday afternoon, that's often a bad sign - they're trying to bury news they know fans won't like (usually delays).
