We spend so much time with our keyboards and mice, but many people stick with whatever came with their computer. I'm convinced that thoughtful keyboard and mouse upgrades can significantly improve both comfort and productivity.

What specific upgrades have you made that were actually worth it? I'm talking about mechanical keyboards with specific switch types, ergonomic mice, trackballs, or even things like mouse pads with the right surface.

I'm especially interested in setups that help with wrist strain or improve workflow efficiency. What combinations have you found that work well for different types of work (coding, design, writing, gaming)?

For keyboard and mouse upgrades, mechanical keyboards with Cherry MX Brown or similar tactile switches are great for typing. They provide feedback without being too loud. For gaming, linear switches like Reds might be better.

A vertical mouse was a game changer for my wrist pain. It takes a week to get used to, but once you do, regular mice feel uncomfortable. This is one of those keyboard and mouse upgrades that can prevent long term injury.

Also, a large mouse pad with a smooth surface makes mouse movements more consistent, especially for gaming or design work.
A keyboard with programmable macro keys can be one of the most useful keyboard and mouse upgrades for productivity. Being able to trigger complex sequences with one keypress saves so much time.

For the mouse, consider one with additional thumb buttons. I have mine set to copy, paste, and undo, which speeds up editing work dramatically. These keyboard and mouse upgrades seem small but add up over thousands of repetitions.
Don't overlook keyboard and mouse upgrades for ergonomics. A split keyboard or one with a tenting kit can help with shoulder and wrist alignment. Similarly, a trackball mouse eliminates arm movement entirely, which some people prefer.

The best keyboard and mouse upgrades are the ones you don't notice because they feel natural and comfortable. If you're thinking about your input devices, they're probably not right for you.
