The camera market has changed so much in recent years. We have amazing smartphone cameras, mirrorless systems that keep getting better, and drones that can capture incredible footage.
I'm trying to figure out what camera gear worth the money actually makes sense to buy right now. If you're into photography or videography, where should you invest? Are expensive lenses still worth it when computational photography is getting so good? What about accessories like gimbals, lighting, or filters?
I'm particularly interested in gear that will still be relevant in a few years, not just the latest trend. What purchases have given you the most bang for your buck?
Lenses are still camera gear worth the money, even with computational photography improving. Good glass lasts decades and can be used on multiple camera bodies. A 50mm f/1.8 prime lens from any major brand is usually a great value and teaches you a lot about photography.
For camera bodies, mid range mirrorless cameras from Sony, Canon, or Fujifilm offer the best balance of features and price. The camera gear worth the money here gives you room to grow without breaking the bank.
Avoid buying the latest model just because it's new. Often, the previous generation offers 90% of the performance for 60% of the price.
