Integration is absolutely critical in my experience. The best business intelligence software in the world is useless if it can't connect to your data sources easily. We wasted months on a tool that promised great features but had terrible connectors.
I prioritize scalability and total cost of ownership. Some business intelligence software looks cheap initially but then you get hit with per-user fees, data volume charges, or need expensive consultants to do anything complex.
Also consider how the tool supports data-driven decision making. Can business users actually use it themselves, or does everything need to go through a central team? Self-service capabilities make a huge difference in adoption.
Data governance features are becoming increasingly important in business intelligence software selection. Can you control who sees what data? Are there audit trails? How does the tool handle data quality issues?
These might not seem like exciting features, but they become critical as your data analytics platforms mature and you need to ensure compliance and data trustworthiness.
Performance with your actual data volumes is something you need to test, not just take the vendor's word for. We got burned by a tool that worked great with demo datasets but crawled to a halt with our real data.
Also consider how the business intelligence software fits with your overall data architecture. Does it play nicely with your data warehousing solutions and data integration platforms?
