I've been practicing spiritual journaling for healing for about a year now and it's been transformative. I'm curious if others have tried this approach and what their experiences have been. How do you structure your spiritual journaling practice? What specific prompts or approaches have helped you process difficult emotions or find spiritual guidance during crisis?
I keep a prayer journal where I write my prayers instead of just saying them. This practice has deepened my spiritual life tremendously. Writing forces me to articulate what I'm really feeling and asking for. Later, I can look back and see how prayers were answered, sometimes in unexpected ways. It's helped me recognize patterns of divine intervention in my life that I might have missed otherwise.
I encourage my meditation students to keep a insights journal." After meditation, they jot down any thoughts, feelings, or realizations that arose. Over time, this creates a record of their inner journey and spiritual growth. Many discover that solutions to problems or comfort during difficult times emerges during meditation, and the journal helps them capture and integrate these insights.
I recommend unsent letter" journaling for grief. Write letters to the person you've lost, to God, to your future self, or even to the grief itself. This practice helps externalize and process complex emotions. People often discover they're carrying conversations they wish they could have had, and writing provides a space for those conversations. It's a powerful form of spiritual journaling for healing.
My anxiety journal has two sections: Worries" and "Truths." In the Worries section, I dump all my anxious thoughts. In the Truths section, I write spiritual truths that counter those worries (like "I am held in divine love" or "This too shall pass"). Over time, I've noticed my Worries section getting smaller and my Truths section growing. This practice has rewired my thinking in a spiritually grounded way.
