I'm always looking for good retro gaming events to attend, whether they're local meetups, conventions, or larger expos. Have any of you been to any retro gaming events recently that you'd recommend? I'm particularly interested in events that focus on retro game collectors and restoration workshops. What was your experience like, and what made the event worthwhile? Also, are there any upcoming events you're excited about?
I went to a local retro gaming event last month that was fantastic. It was mostly a swap meet with some tournaments. What made it great was the community - everyone was friendly and knowledgeable. I found some great deals on Genesis games and met some local retro game collectors. They're planning a bigger event next year with restoration workshops.
I attended a larger convention earlier this year that had everything - vendors, panels, tournaments, even a museum section with rare prototypes. The best part was the retro console gaming area where you could play on original CRTs. They had everything from Atari to Dreamcast set up. The energy at these retro gaming events is always amazing.
There's a yearly event in my city that focuses specifically on retro game restoration. They have experts giving talks on everything from recapping consoles to fixing disc drives. I've learned so much from attending. They also have a repair station where you can bring your broken stuff and get help fixing it. These kinds of retro gaming events are invaluable for the community.
