I've been collecting for years but mostly on my own. Lately I've been wanting to connect with other retro game collectors and enthusiasts. What are the best ways to find an active retro game community? Are there particular forums, Discord servers, or local meetups that you'd recommend? I'm especially interested in groups that focus on retro console gaming and sharing restoration tips.
Local retro gaming events are a great way to meet people. I've met some of my best collecting friends at conventions and swap meets. Check if there are any retro gaming events in your area - even small ones can have dedicated communities. Also, Facebook groups for specific cities or regions often organize meetups.
Discord has been amazing for connecting with other retro game collectors. There are servers for specific consoles, game series, and even regional communities. I'm in a Sega Genesis focused server that's super active with daily discussions about games, hardware, and restoration tips.
I'd recommend checking out dedicated forums like AtariAge or NintendoAge (though the latter changed names recently). These have been around for years and have very knowledgeable communities. Also, Reddit has some good retro gaming subreddits where people share finds and discuss classic game recommendations.
Local game stores that specialize in retro stuff often have bulletin boards or host events. I've found some great local connections that way. Also, YouTube channels focused on retro console gaming often have Discord communities that are worth joining.
