Best surprise games are what keep me coming back to gaming. Those experiences where you have zero expectations and come away absolutely amazed.
"Clockwork Cathedral" is my current favorite surprise. It's a puzzle game set in a massive mechanical cathedral where you're literally rewiring the building's systems to solve puzzles. I expected a simple puzzle game and got this incredibly complex, satisfying engineering simulator with gorgeous steampunk aesthetics. It's one of those best surprise games that makes you appreciate game design as an art form.
