As electric vehicles become more common, I'm wondering about the role of electric vehicle charging stations in the transit ecosystem. Some transit agencies are adding charging stations at park and ride lots and major stations.
The idea makes sense: encourage people to drive electric vehicles to transit stations, then continue their journey by bus or train. It could be part of a multi modal transportation strategy that reduces overall emissions.
But there are questions too. Should transit agencies be investing in charging infrastructure, or is that better left to private companies? How do you manage demand and ensure fair access? And what about the cost of electricity?
I'm also curious about the practicalities. Are these charging stations actually being used by transit riders? Or are they more for general public use? And do they help attract riders who might otherwise drive the whole way?
