Full Version: What makes bike sharing integration with transit systems work well?

As someone who loves combining cycling with public transit, I'm always excited to see good bike sharing integration at transit stations. But not all integration is created equal.

The best systems I've seen have bike sharing docks right at station entrances, with enough bikes available during peak times. They also have good information about bike availability in transit apps, and sometimes even integrated payment so you can use the same card for both.

But there are challenges too. Theft and vandalism, maintenance issues, and making sure bikes are distributed where people need them. And what about accessibility? Are there options for people who can't use standard bikes?

I'm also curious about how bike sharing fits into broader multi modal transportation strategies. Does it actually get people to use transit for longer trips they might otherwise drive? Or is it mostly replacing walking for short distances?

What examples of good bike sharing integration have you seen, and what makes them work well?
