Real time transit tracking has become pretty standard in many cities, but I'm curious about how well it actually works in practice. I've had mixed experiences with different systems.

Some apps seem incredibly accurate, telling me exactly when my bus will arrive down to the minute. Others are less reliable, sometimes showing buses that never appear or giving wildly inaccurate arrival times.

I'm wondering what makes the difference. Is it the technology itself? The quality of the data? Or how it's implemented? I've heard that systems using GPS on vehicles tend to be more accurate than those relying on schedule predictions.

Also, how do different modes compare? Is real time tracking better for buses than for trains or light rail developments? And what about during disruptions or bad weather?

Has real time transit tracking actually changed how you use public transportation, or is it more of a nice to have feature?
