I've been thinking about the difference between sedans that last 200k miles versus SUV longevity over 200k miles. It seems like sedans might have an advantage due to lighter weight and simpler drivetrains, but modern SUVs are built pretty tough too.

What's everyone's experience? Do certain types of vehicles tend to last longer? I'm curious about truck durability 200k miles compared to sedans, and whether hybrid car longevity 200k miles is actually better than traditional gas engines.
From my research, sedans that last 200k miles generally have an advantage over SUVs for a few reasons. They're lighter, which puts less stress on drivetrain components. They often have simpler suspension systems. And they tend to be driven more gently than trucks or SUVs.

That said, modern SUV longevity over 200k miles has improved dramatically. Vehicles like the Toyota Highlander, Honda Pilot, and Lexus RX have proven to be very durable.
Truck durability 200k miles is impressive considering the work many trucks do. A half-ton pickup used for towing and hauling is under much more stress than a sedan used for commuting.

That said, trucks are often overbuilt for their intended use, which can contribute to longevity. The frames, suspensions, and drivetrains are designed to handle heavy loads, so when used lightly, they can last a long time.
Hybrid car longevity 200k miles is actually quite good from what I've seen. The Toyota Prius in particular has proven to be very durable. The hybrid systems seem to hold up well, and the engines benefit from running at more optimal conditions.

The battery packs are the main concern, but even those are lasting longer than many people expected. I've seen several Priuses with 250k+ miles on their original batteries that still have decent capacity.
Minivans deserve mention too - they're often used hard by families but can last a long time. The Toyota Sienna and Honda Odyssey have proven to be very durable, with many reaching 200k+ miles.

They combine sedan-like driving dynamics with SUV-like space, and their drivetrains are often shared with more pedestrian models that have proven longevity.
