I love being part of a good song sharing community where people genuinely recommend music to each other. I've tried a few different platforms and subreddits but I'm always looking for better ones. Where do you go for quality music recommendations from real people who actually listen to diverse stuff?
I really enjoy being part of the song sharing community on Reddit's r/listentothis. The moderation is pretty good about keeping out mainstream stuff, so you get a lot of genuine underground recommendations. People there are really passionate about music and the discussions are usually thoughtful.
There's this Discord server called Music Discoveries" that's become my favorite song sharing community. It's smaller than Reddit communities but the recommendations are consistently high quality. People actually listen to what others share and give feedback, which is rare these days.
I've found some great song sharing community vibes on Last.fm. The groups there tend to be more focused on specific genres or eras, so you get really knowledgeable recommendations. The discussion forums are less active than they used to be, but when people do post, it's usually quality content.
For a song sharing community, I really like the Rate Your Music" forums. The user base there is super knowledgeable about music history and obscure genres. The recommendations you get are often deep cuts that you won't find anywhere else. It's more discussion focused than just link sharing.
There's this app called JQBX" where you can listen to Spotify together with other people and take turns playing songs. It's like a virtual listening party and has become my favorite song sharing community experience. You get to hear what other people are passionate about in real time, which is way more engaging than just reading lists.
