I'm planning to overhaul my gaming setup and I want to focus on gaming setup improvement that actually impacts performance. Beyond just buying new hardware, what are some setup optimizations that can improve gaming system performance?

I'm thinking about things like monitor placement, cable management for better airflow, software configurations, or even desk setup that might affect gaming performance. What gaming setup improvement tips have you found most effective for creating a better gaming environment that actually helps with performance?
Cable management is more important than people think for gaming setup improvement. Proper cable routing improves airflow, which helps with cooling, which directly impacts performance through thermal throttling prevention. I use velcro straps and cable channels to keep everything organized and away from fans.

Also, monitor placement at eye level reduces neck strain during long sessions, which might not directly boost FPS but definitely improves the overall gaming experience and helps you play better.
Desk placement matters too. If your PC is in an enclosed space or right against a wall, it can't breathe properly. I moved my setup away from the wall by about 6 inches and saw a 3-5°C drop in temperatures, which helped maintain boost clocks on my CPU and GPU.

Also, using a monitor arm instead of the stock stand gives you more desk space and better positioning options. It's a small change but makes a big difference in comfort and setup flexibility.
Lighting setup can affect performance indirectly. If you have RGB software running in the background, it can use system resources. I switched to hardware-controlled RGB instead of software-controlled, which freed up some CPU cycles.

Also, consider your network setup. Using Ethernet instead of WiFi reduces latency, which is crucial for competitive gaming. If you must use WiFi, position your router properly and consider a WiFi extender or mesh system for better signal.
Don't overlook peripheral placement. Having your mouse and keyboard at the right height and distance reduces strain and can improve reaction times. I use a keyboard tray that slides under my desk to get the perfect positioning.

Also, monitor calibration is important. A properly calibrated monitor with the right brightness and contrast settings reduces eye strain during long gaming sessions, which helps maintain focus and performance.
