Hey everyone, I've been working on streamlining my 2D animation workflow lately and wanted to share some thoughts. I find that having a solid animation workflow really makes a difference in productivity.

One thing that's helped me is creating custom keyboard shortcuts for the tools I use most often. This saves so much time when you're in the zone. Also, setting up templates for common scenes or character poses can really speed things up.

What are your favorite animation shortcuts and tricks that help optimize your workflow? I'm always looking for new ways to work more efficiently.
Great topic! For my 2D animation workflow, I've found that setting up a consistent naming convention from the start saves so much time later. I use a simple code system for scenes, shots, and versions that everyone on the team understands.

One of my favorite animation shortcuts is using onion skinning with custom colors for different layers. It helps me visualize spacing and timing much better than the default settings. Also, creating custom brushes for common textures or effects speeds up the texturing process significantly.
I completely agree about custom shortcuts. One animation trick that changed my workflow was setting up workspace presets for different tasks. I have one setup for character animation, another for background work, and a third for compositing.

For animation workflow optimization, I've started using proxy files for complex scenes during the rough animation phase. This lets me work faster without waiting for heavy files to load. Then I switch to the full resolution files for the final polish.
The template idea is solid. I create scene templates with pre-set layers for characters, backgrounds, and effects. This ensures consistency across shots and makes it easier for other team members to jump in if needed.

Another animation shortcut I use religiously is the ability to copy animation curves between similar movements. If I've already animated a walk cycle for one character, I can often adapt those curves for another character with similar proportions, saving hours of work.
For workflow optimization, I've implemented a checklist system for each stage of production. This might sound basic, but having a standardized process prevents me from forgetting important steps.

One animation trick that's helped my team is using color-coded layers not just for organization, but also to indicate completion status. Green for approved, yellow for in progress, red for needs revision. It gives everyone a quick visual overview of where things stand.
As someone who works with both animation and coding, I've found that scripting repetitive tasks can be a huge time saver. Even simple scripts for batch processing or auto-saving in specific formats can streamline the animation workflow significantly.

Are there any particular software tools you'd recommend for someone looking to optimize their 2D animation workflow? I'm always interested in trying new approaches to work more efficiently.
