I work in tech and I'm looking to connect with other professionals in the field. What tech meetups in area are worth attending? I'm interested in meetups focused on specific technologies, general networking events, or learning opportunities. Are there any tech meetups that have particularly good speakers or communities? What's the best way to find out about upcoming tech events?
The JavaScript meetup at the coworking space has great speakers and the attendees are really knowledgeable. They often have hack nights where people work on projects together. Also the data science group meets at the library and discusses different tools and techniques. Tech meetups in area that have a clear focus and regular schedule tend to build stronger communities. Meetup.com is still the best way to find them, though some have moved to Discord or Slack.
The women in tech group has monthly meetings with speakers and networking. It's a supportive community for women in a male dominated field. Also the startup founders circle meets for coffee and idea sharing. Tech meetups in area that cater to specific demographics or interests can be more valuable than general ones because you're with people who share your experiences or challenges. The connections tend to be deeper.
The tech for social good group brings together developers who want to work on projects that benefit nonprofits or the community. They match skills with needs. Also the career transition into tech group helps people from other fields learn about tech careers. Tech meetups in area that have a purpose beyond just networking can lead to more meaningful connections and opportunities because you're working toward something together.
