I work with several new e-commerce stores and I'm always surprised how many overlook email marketing for new stores. It's one of the most cost-effective customer retention strategies available, but most new owners don't know where to start.

What email marketing strategies have you found work best for brand new stores? I'm looking for practical advice on building lists, creating welcome sequences, and using email to drive repeat purchases.
For email marketing for new stores, the welcome sequence is everything. Don't just send a boring thanks for subscribing" email. Create a 3-5 email sequence that introduces your brand, shares your story, and provides value before asking for a sale. I usually include a small discount in the third email, which converts really well.
Building your list is crucial. Offer a lead magnet that's actually valuable to your target customers - not just a generic discount. For example, if you sell photography equipment, offer a free lighting guide or composition cheat sheet. This attracts people who are actually interested in your niche, not just bargain hunters.
Segmentation is key for effective email marketing. Don't send the same emails to everyone. Segment your list based on purchase history, interests, or engagement level. Send different content to new subscribers vs repeat customers. This personalization dramatically improves open rates and conversions.
