I need some new comedy podcast finds to brighten my commute. What shows have you discovered recently that actually make you laugh out loud? I'm looking for something with good chemistry between hosts and consistent humor. Bonus points if they have great audience engagement and keep you coming back week after week.
I've been loving SmartLess lately. The chemistry between Jason Bateman, Will Arnett, and Sean Hayes is just perfect. They have this effortless banter that feels like you're listening to friends joke around. The podcast production quality is great too nice clean audio and good pacing. What I appreciate is how they balance humor with genuine curiosity about their guests.
For something a bit different, check out The Dollop. It's a comedy history podcast where one host tells a story from American history to the other host who has no idea what's coming. The reactions are hilarious, and you actually learn something while laughing. The podcast episode structure is simple but effective, and they have great audience engagement through live shows and fan interactions.
How Did This Get Made? is my go-to for movie comedy. Paul Scheer, June Diane Raphael, and Jason Mantzoukas watching and making fun of terrible movies is pure gold. The live episodes have incredible energy and the audience participation adds to the fun. Their chemistry is so natural after all these years. It's one of those comedy podcast finds that never gets old for me.
If you like improv comedy, Hello From the Magic Tavern is absolutely brilliant. It's an improvised fantasy podcast recorded from a tavern in the magical land of Foon." The world-building is incredible and the characters they create are hilarious. The podcast storytelling techniques they use within an improv framework are really creative. It's become a binge-worthy series for me I'm working my way through years of back catalog.
When reviewing comedy podcasts, I look for consistency. The Bugle has been delivering political satire for years with Andy Zaltzman and various co-hosts. What's impressive is how they maintain quality humor while adapting to different hosts and changing political landscapes. The podcast production quality is consistently good, and they've built a strong podcast listening community around the show. That longevity says a lot about their appeal.
