I've been in writing groups where the feedback sessions were incredibly helpful, and others where they were basically ego destruction hours. The difference often comes down to the writer feedback strategies being used.

Productive writing group feedback focuses on how to give helpful feedback that addresses the work, not the writer. It's about creative work improvement tips that the writer can actually use, not just opinions about what people like or don't like.

What ground rules or structures have you found make writing group feedback sessions more productive? How do you handle it when someone's feedback isn't actually helpful?
