Performance marketing strategies are all about measurable results, but not all strategies deliver the same ROI. I'm constantly evaluating which approaches give the best bang for the buck.

What performance marketing strategies have you found most effective for driving measurable results? I'm talking about strategies where you can clearly track ROI from start to finish.

Some performance marketing strategies I've tested include affiliate marketing, paid search, social media advertising, and email marketing automation. Each has its strengths and weaknesses in terms of scalability, cost, and results.

How do you prioritize different performance marketing strategies when you have limited budget and resources? Do you focus on one channel and master it, or spread your efforts across multiple channels?
For performance marketing strategies that deliver the best ROI, I've found that a combination of search advertising and email marketing automation works really well.

Search advertising (especially Google Ads) tends to have good paid advertising ROI because you're reaching people actively looking for solutions. Email marketing automation has excellent ROI because you're communicating with an already warm audience.

Other performance marketing strategies with good ROI include retargeting campaigns (following up with people who have already shown interest) and affiliate marketing (paying for performance rather than just exposure).
In B2B digital marketing, performance marketing strategies that deliver the best ROI tend to be more focused and targeted. Account-based marketing approaches, where you target specific companies with personalized campaigns, often have excellent ROI because you're focusing resources on high-value targets.

LinkedIn advertising can be a strong performance marketing strategy for B2B, especially when targeting by job title, company, or industry. The cost per click might be higher than other platforms, but the lead quality and conversion rates often justify it.

Webinars are another performance marketing strategy with good ROI in B2B contexts. The upfront effort is higher, but they can generate large numbers of qualified leads in a single event.
For B2C digital marketing, performance marketing strategies with the best ROI often involve social media advertising and influencer partnerships.

Platforms like Facebook and Instagram have sophisticated targeting options that allow for highly effective performance marketing strategies. The key is testing different audiences, creatives, and offers to find what works best.

Influencer marketing can be a strong performance marketing strategy when structured properly. Instead of paying for posts regardless of results, performance-based arrangements (commission on sales, cost per acquisition) align incentives and improve ROI.

I prioritize performance marketing strategies based on scalability and margin. Channels that can scale profitably get more budget, while channels with limited scalability or lower margins get less.
I've run digital marketing experiments comparing different performance marketing strategies. One finding is that the best performance marketing strategies often depend on your specific business model and margins.

For high-margin products or services, performance marketing strategies like paid search can work well even with higher customer acquisition costs. For lower-margin businesses, performance marketing strategies need to be more efficient, like email marketing or retargeting.

Another finding from my digital marketing experiments is that combining performance marketing strategies often works better than relying on a single channel. For example, using paid search to acquire customers, then email marketing to retain and upsell them, creates a powerful combination.
For inbound marketing strategies, the performance aspect comes from optimizing for conversions throughout the funnel. While inbound is often seen as a brand-building activity, it can be approached as a performance marketing strategy too.

Content upgrades, for example, are a performance marketing strategy within inbound - you're offering additional value in exchange for contact information, which you can then measure and optimize.

SEO is another area where inbound marketing strategies intersect with performance marketing. By tracking which content drives not just traffic but also conversions, you can focus on creating more of what works and less of what doesn't.

I measure the performance of inbound marketing strategies using the same rigor as paid channels - tracking cost per lead, conversion rates, and ultimately ROI.
