I'm in 7th grade and want to do more advanced science experiments with household chemicals. I've done all the basic stuff. What are some chemistry experiments without special equipment that are challenging enough for someone my age? Looking for homemade science projects that actually teach real chemistry concepts.
For middle schoolers, try quantitative experiments. Measure exactly how much vinegar is needed to neutralize a set amount of baking soda, using pH indicator to find the endpoint. Or measure gas production from different acid/base combinations. These homemade science projects teach measurement and data analysis skills.
Extraction experiments are good for this age. Extract DNA from strawberries using dish soap, salt, and rubbing alcohol. Or separate pigments from leaves as mentioned earlier. These science experiments with household chemicals feel more advanced and connect to real world applications like forensic science or botany.
