I’ve been on the same antidepressant for about two years now and my doctor recently mentioned the possibility of therapeutic drug monitoring to check the levels. I guess I’m just wondering if anyone else has gone through that process—my mood has been pretty stable, so I’m a little unsure why we’d change things up now.
That move can feel odd when you are steady yet doctors sometimes use therapeutic drug monitoring to confirm the levels stay in a safe range even if mood looks fine.
Therapeutic drug monitoring looks at blood levels and tries to tie them to a target range known to help with effects and minimize side effects.
If the mood is stable why change things just for a test may feel unnecessary and maybe the doctor is being cautious.
Perhaps the point is more about having a reference for the future than changing the current plan.
I would not overthink it the test might come with extra questions from the clinic but you could treat it as a routine check in the big picture.
From a reader perspective the idea of a test moves attention from feelings to data and that can shape how you tell the story of your day.
Do you want to know what the test would change in your daily plan or are you hoping for reassurance that nothing needs to change?
