Full Version: How can low ferritin cause dizziness when standing?

I just got my annual blood work back and my doctor said my ferritin is a bit low, which surprised me. I don't feel particularly tired or anything, but now I'm wondering if that slight dizziness I get sometimes when I stand up too fast could be related. Has anyone else been told their iron stores were low without having the classic symptoms?
That ferritin note sounds surprising if you feel fine day to day. I had a similar drift where I wasn’t tired but a lightheaded moment would pop up now and then. Later I learned it can happen even with low iron stores before bigger symptoms show.
Low ferritin can mean different things and dizziness on standing may be due to other causes. ferritin isn't the whole story and inflammation can skew the numbers.
From a lab angle ferritin is a storage metric not an on off switch. You can have normal Hb with low ferritin and still feel meh in some contexts. Did you look at the iron panel beyond ferritin such as transferrin saturation or CRP?
Standing dizziness can be orthostatic and not iron related. Still ferritin being low gives a nudge that your stores are light and your doctor will decide on the next steps.
Maybe reframing helps ferritin is a signal not a verdict. Your body may be adjusting to a new baseline of iron and the symptom suite could be evolving.
Writing wise I picture ferritin as a quiet supporting character in the energy plot. It doesn’t steal the scene until you notice it.
Keep talking to your doctor and not panic. Iron containing foods and a gentle plan can help if your doc confirms, but I would avoid self dosing. Monitor symptoms and follow up.
