Hey everyone. I’ve been working with a great client for about eight months now, and the project scope has slowly crept way beyond our original agreement. I’ve brought it up a couple times, but they just thank me for being flexible and assure me it’s almost done. I’m starting to feel a bit taken advantage of, but I also don’t want to ruin a good relationship over what might just be a rough patch. Has anyone else been in this spot?
That sounds rough I get why you feel stretched thin by scope creep while the client keeps saying it's almost done.
Take a moment to document every change with dates and a revised estimate then present it as a new scope creep adjustment rather than a complaint.
Maybe they think the extra work is just part of scope creep and you are ok with it.
I'm skeptical this is only about timing it feels like a test to see how far you will bend before pushing back Do you have a clear change request process to raise this formally?
Maybe you reframe the issue as a process update instead of a quarrel and propose a short renegotiation with a fixed scope and payment schedule for scope creep changes.
From a writing hat this feels like a recurring character in the project story and you could set a new cadence for updates and estimates around scope creep.
Keep a log of every change and a revised budget ready and bring it up in a short memo to confirm what is in and what is out regarding scope creep.
