I’ve been having this dull ache in my lower abdomen for a few weeks now, and my regular doctor suggested I might need a pelvic ultrasound. I’m just not sure what to expect from the whole process or if it’s something to be worried about.
That sounds worrying yet common for persistent lower abdomen pain a pelvic ultrasound is a standard step and it can help rule out issues.
During a pelvic ultrasound you usually lie on a bed while a technician applies gel and moves a small wand over the area to create images.
Some people worry that pelvic ultrasound uses radiation but that is not true it uses sound waves to image internal organs which many find reassuring.
Not sure we need the test for every ache but I would still follow your doctor and get the ultrasound if they asked.
If you can reframe it as a chance to map what is normal in your body you might feel less tense about the process and its outcomes.
If you keep a note about the experience you could describe the waiting gel the feel of the wand and what you wish you asked when the results come back
