Full Version: What causes the steering to pull left for a moment after startup in my Outback?

So I’ve got this weird thing happening with my 2015 Outback where the steering wheel feels like it’s gently tugging to the left for a second or two right after I start it up and begin to drive, then it just goes completely normal. It doesn’t pull while braking and the alignment seems fine. I’m just wondering if anyone else has felt something like this before.
That little tug right after startup would put me on edge too. A moment like that can make the steering feel a bit temperamental before it settles in.
If your Outback uses electric steering, a brief calibration pulse at ignition could explain the initial tug. Since it vanishes after a second, I’d still peek at tires for uneven wear, light spots, and make sure the pressures are balanced.
Could it be the road crown catching the wheel for a second as you start to move, not a car issue at all?
I’m skeptical that this means a real fault; if it doesn’t pull while braking and the normal driving is solid, it might just be a surface or a software nudge rather than a mechanical problem in the steering.
Think of this as a startup thing for the steering system, not a full on misalignment. Some EPS modules recalibrate in the first seconds and then everything feels normal.
As a reader I’d expect a clear fix, but this feels more like a momentary nervous tick the car shows before getting comfy with the road. It is still worth a quick check to rule out a loose wheel or sensor.
If it keeps happening, check tire pressures, wheel lug torque, and listen for any abnormal noises. A quick wheel alignment check and a glance at the steering linkage can spare you a larger headache later.
