So I just got a weird email that looks like it’s from my bank, asking me to click a link to verify a small transaction I don’t recognize. The thing is, the sender address looks almost right, but not quite, and now I’m second-guessing myself. Has anyone else had this happen and figured out a reliable way to tell if it’s a genuine alert or a phishing attempt?
That email would freak me out too I get the urge to click when it looks almost legit but my brain says pause and check the sender before doing anything
Start by inspecting the sender domain and the header if you can without clicking any link a small misspelling or a strange domain is a red flag better to type the official site address into your browser or call the bank
I once got a note saying verify a transfer I did not recognize I felt sure then realized my eyes played tricks on me the world is full of little scams
Maybe the problem is not the alert but the channel banks use many push or SMS alerts and not email so this framing could be phishing and a test of your reflexes more than a real alert
Im skeptical that a real bank would ask for a click from an email it would feel like a phishing move if the channel is wrong so take a breath and verify through a separate channel
If you want a quick check try this non technical approach dont click a link go to the bank app or site and review recent transactions and if in doubt call the bank directly
