So I’m in my late thirties and finally got serious about running, but now my knee has this dull ache that just won’t go away after a few months. My doctor mentioned it might be early patellofemoral pain syndrome, which sounds vague and a little overwhelming. I’m not sure if I should push through it gently or just stop altogether, and I’m curious if others have been in this weird in-between spot.
I'm in a similar spot chasing miles and suddenly the knee says not today I slowed down and started with tiny goals I learned to listen instead of forcing pace
A label can feel heavy so I would not treat it as a verdict but a signal that something warrants a gentler plan and maybe a PT check in
Patellofemoral pain syndrome gets tossed around a lot but if the knee hurts after running it might be a mix of mechanics overuse and recovery time
Try a few weeks of low impact runs swim or bike plus mobility work and see if the ache eases I found that easing into load helped
Some days the body holds a grudge and you keep showing up anyway the mindset matters more than the fix
What if this is a message about adapting your goals to fit a body that changes with age rather than chasing a single race time?
If a dull ache lasts months a quick check in with a clinician plus a plan for gradual loading could be worthwhile just to avoid longer trouble
