I was rewatching some older movies and realized my favorite actor from twenty years ago probably wouldn’t even make my top five today. It’s got me wondering if anyone else has had a favorite performer completely fall off their personal list over time, not because you dislike them now, but just because your tastes quietly shifted. I don’t even know when it happened.
Totally. My favorite actor from back then feels distant now not because they changed but because my taste moved like a playlist I forgot to refresh. I still respect the performances but they sit on a different shelf than before.
Tastes evolve as you gather new references and memory anchors shift with time. The shift is not a betrayal it is like your personal genre map moving and old favorites start to feel quaint rather than essential.
Maybe its not a clean shift maybe you just forget the misses and the frame of reference changes. We remember the hits and overlook the quiet flaws and suddenly the same actor feels flat.
Do you think your brain is re ranking priorities like more authenticity or different pacing in dialogue?
The frame might be the thing the top five is not about the actor it is about a moment in time when you felt something strong If you reframe to what would a modern list look like for that era you might see a different pattern.
Feels more like vibes than talent for me sometimes I care who I want to hang with on screen rather than who wins the scene.
Aesthetic memory is a thing and how memory attaches to era shows a drift in taste you dont notice until you rewatch.
